Welcome To Casa Tibubiu

DISCOVER WEST BALI FROM OUR RURAL RETREAT

Our Ecolodge is located amidst beautiful ricefields nest Krambitan, in the Western part of Bali, set far away from tourist crowds. The region is part of the Tabanan district, one of the eight former kingdoms of Bali. Feel at home in our traditional Casa while immersing yourself into rural Balinese daily life, lulled by the faraway roaring of the waves on the nearby black sand beaches of Pasut and Kelating. Tibubiyu is the name of the village, Tibu refers to a “deep hole in the river” and “biyu or biu” means banana trees, reflecting its natural countryside settings. It is bordered by two rivers: Tukad Yeh Lating to the east and Tukad Yeh Ho to the west. Both serve as the main irrigation source for agriculture in the area, playing a major part in the traditional Balinese irrigation system known as Subak. Here rice is harvested three times a year with supporting crops such as corn and long beans.

WHAT IS SUBAK ?

SUBAK is a unique traditional, ecologically sustainable irrigation system that binds Balinese farmers together. This highly efficient agrarian community, based on solidarity, dates back to the IXth century. Between 50 and 400 farmers manage the water supply from one source of water. It is not only a cooperative for helping one another all through the stages of rice-planting, but also to take care of the irrigation network, made of canals, and tunnels, bamboo piping etc… The Subak community also takes care of the rituals required to ensure good crops. The Subak community has its own temple, the Pura Subak, and small shrines dedicated to Dewi Sri, the Goddess of Rice and Prosperity are scattered throughout the fields for daily offerings.
